Newcastle University Islamic Society

Newcastle University Islamic Society exists to represent Muslim students, serve their interests and maintain the facilities which cater to their needs on campus. We organize regular lectures, outreach events, Islamic classes and social and sports activities. We also hold outreach events to engage in the wider community.

Our Events

We have a variety of weekly events and activities for both brothers and sisters Including Quran reflection sessions with a speaker, free weekly Hifdh circles focused on Quran reading for both brothers and sisters, and a specialist-led Qaida circle for sisters to learn the basics of Quran. Additionally, we host a fortnightly series discussing a day in the life of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as well as Friday socials for both brothers and sisters. Join us in the ISoc prayer space for all these events!

Our Prayer Space

At Newcastle, we’re fortunate to have a Muslim dedicated prayer space provided by the University. It is the centerpiece of the ISoc, with all 5 daily prayers taking place there, as well as Friday prayer, gatherings, social activities and committee meetings.

We also hold our Iftar there – not just during Ramadan – Newcastle ISoc is unique across the country for providing free Iftar every month during the 3 white days, to encourage students & staff to uphold this virtuous sunnah.

The prayer space is located in the King George VI Building. It is open to all students & staff members, with separate wudu facilities, a kitchen, office, and library.
